Gentleman Jack, BBC
We have one of the largest collections of vintage market carts and trolleys available for hire in the north. We have a wide range of market carts available from different eras.
Why are market carts so popular, and how should you dress them?
For centuries, people have used market carts for everything from selling produce and handmade goods to transporting farming and construction materials. Often seen on streets or pulled by animals, these carts have served countless purposes.
One very popular method of dressing these market carts is to use tarps. To see how to effectively set dress with tarps, read all about it in our canvas tarps blog post.
Who have we supplied to and how have they used them?

Peaky Blinders, BBC
We supply props to a wide range of productions and events! You might’ve seen our carts at a festival or in the hit BBC drama Peaky Blinders. Above is an image taken from the award-winning television series ’Peaky Blinders’. Whilst a range of our props and dressing are within the image, you can see the cart filling some negative space. In the series, they use our carts in dockside scenes, dressing them with ropes and tools depicting a busy and active dock whilst being a minimal scene.
In the Netflix drama ‘House of Guinness’, they used a large selection of our collection of carts within their street dressing. As pictured below, we can see that they have dressed the carts for the period. People used them like market stalls—displaying products to those nearby and transporting stock. These design choices actively immerse the audience watching the programme.

Manchester World, 2024.
Whilst carts are heavily used within period dramas for street scenes, they’re also used with modern dramas, such as the new season of Black Ops on the BBC and even Cats Does Countdown! They are great to create out-of-the-ordinary market stalls in Camden or a game stall for a village fete.
